100th Day Appreciation Celebration Jan. 25, 2012
For LCHS Teachers, Faculty, Staff, Administration K-6
Through Expository or Descriptive Writing
In appreciation of the LCHS School “Team,” Mr. Auburn Wilson, LCHS fifth grade teacher, and the entire fifth grade student body used the “100th Day of School” festivities to show appreciation and make an attempt to uplift the hardworking and dedicated professionals and hopefully enhance teacher morale, self-confidence, and self-esteem.
Differentiated classroom writing strategies, such as “Chalk Talk,” and “Quick Writes” led to the development of descriptive and expository stories of the LCHS teachers, faculty, and staff members. The entire fifth grade students were excited about participating in this year’s appreciation celebration. Upon completion of these “Thank You” and “Appreciation” stories, Mr. Wilson and the students worked together to create and design the 100th Day “Wall of Fame,” which displayed approximately 200 motivational and inspiring stories of their special teachers, administrators, and the entire faculty and staff members connected to the K-6 grade levels. These stories were displayed in the hallways of the fifth grade building for viewing, reading, and admiring.
On Wednesday, January 25, 2012, the celebration began with announcements reminding teachers to come to Mr. Auburn Wilson’s classroom for a surprise they wouldn’t want to miss. As teachers began coming down the hallway, they became very appreciative, thankful, and even somewhat amazed! As part of the special “red carpet” treatment provided by Mr. Wilson and several fifth grade students, the faculty and staff members were given special recognition and escorted into his room where they received a Krispy Kreme donut and crowned with a Krispy Kreme hat. “I appreciate the willingness of our local Krispy Kreme store to become a partner in this celebration by providing approximately 300 donuts, hats, balloons, and pencils as a way to demonstrate their appreciation to the LCHS faculty, staff, and the entire fifth grade class for a job well done!” Mr. Wilson said. The faculty and staff also received information provided by the Florence store manager about the Krispy Kreme Partnership Reading Program and the “Donuts for A’s” report card promotion. Most faculty and staff members gracefully posed with their hats and donuts for a photograph, and were able to watch themselves “live” as they departed from the classroom. The next stop for them was to visit the “Wall of Fame” where they could enjoy their inspiring stories the students had written. Most teachers felt honored to have something positively written about them on the wall. Many teachers came back around later in the day and sincerely thanked the fifth grade students and Mr. Wilson for this positive and motivational activity. The response from the teachers was very gracious and humbling.
As an added treat for the “Wall of Famers,” each student delivered their appreciation letters to the special teachers, faculty, and staff members for them to keep and have for their scrapbooks and portfolios. Mr. Wilson commented, “I want to also give special recognition to the entire fifth grade students for their wonderful efforts in this project. I am very proud of their hard work and creativity. The students really came through and produced good quality materials that will be cherished and appreciated by many people for a long time to come.”
